<p style="font-size:11px; font-weight:normal;"><em> lower manhattan sunrise &#8211; february 2 © j carrier </em></p>
<p><center>***</center></p>
<p style="font-size:14px; font-weight:normal;">excited to announce that after 15 months working in the middle east, and nearly five years before that working in africa, i am now based in new york city.</p>
<p style="font-size:14px; font-weight:normal;">after making my way around israel and the west bank for the past year, i’ve completed the initial phase of my project <i>no such thing</i> which examines history, identity and land, and the costs of conflict and exile in the region.</p>
<p style="font-size:14px; font-weight:normal;">i’ve only recently started to show this new work, but it has already received a warm response. it was the winning fine art series in the <a title="ny photo awards" href="http://www.nyphotofestival.com/?page_id=6824" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><i>new york photo awards</i></span></a>, was a <a title="director’s choice" href=" http://visitcenter.org/index.php/center/award_page/directors_choice/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline"><i>director’s choice</i></span></a> in the CENTER awards, and selected for publication in <a title="ap26" href="http://www.ai-ap.com/cfe/APss/APSlideSelected.html" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><i>american photography 26</i></span></a>, marking my second consecutive year of inclusion in AP&#8217;s annual book.</p>
<p style="font-size:14px; font-weight:normal;">i am also excited to announce that i will begin an MFA in photography this summer at the <a title="hartford mfa web" href="http://www.hartfordphotomfa.org/about.php" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><i>university of hartford</i></span></a>. </p>
<p style="font-size:14px; font-weight:normal;">after navigating the wilds of the world, i’m eager to investigate new directions in photography, challenge my work and strengthen my understanding of the art and theory of the craft. i’m also looking forward to the opportunity to work with the great photographers at the hartford art school including the director robert lyons, professors alec soth and doug dubois and lecturer adam bartos.</p>
<p style="font-size:14px; font-weight:normal;">the program is geared towards the engaged professional and is limited residency, so i am only in class a couple of weeks each semester. when class is not in session, i&#8217;ll be working on my thesis projects, which will periodically take me back to africa and the middle east.</p>
<p style="font-size:14px; font-weight:normal;">during this time i’ll still be accepting commissions and assignments.</p>
<p style="font-size:14px; font-weight:normal;">finally, please take a moment to check out my <a title="j-carrier.com" href="http://j-carrier.com" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><i> new website</i></span></a> which was recently re-designed and updated and now features my project work in addition to my editorial portfolio and portraits. as always, you can also follow my work and travels here at <a title="postcards website" href="http://j-carrier.com/postcards" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><i>postcards from the field</i></span></a> &#8211; please subscribe to receive emails when i post a new entry.</p>
<p style="font-size:14px; font-weight:normal;">for assignments or just to touch base i can be reached at +1.202.679.8669 or <a href="mailto:j@j-carrier.com">j@j-carrier.com</a> and on skype at foto-j</p>
