postcard no.011 // this maze of shadows
and how to make sense of it all, all the years of blood and despair? to make sense of the fact that THIS is what IT is all about, this place! and to realize that people actually LIVE here, and have — for millennia.
i try to imagine the old city as it really is, but re-imagine the city as i want it to be. life goes on amidst the conflict and darkness, but it’s half a life it seems to me, an interstitial space hung between a history and a history yet scripted. is it ever really now? only the Dead are certain inhabitants — interred with skin and stone, compressed in earth. stuck in time in this maze of shadows and death, the centuries have taught us, to be dead is to remain.
