layover. flying back to the US after covering the asian tsunami in 2006 i had 8 hours in HK. i knew nothing of the place; so i chucked all but one camera into a rented locker at the airport took the commuter train to the city and wandered around until i had to catch the last train back. an ethereal journey shrouded in night and fog with snippets of life visible in the interstitial tissue of street lights. a thief on this island, suspended in time, a nobody, somewhere but not for long.
